Gist（內(nèi)容簡介）
Will Lightman, a rich, child-free and irresponsible hip Londoner, who in his thirties, in search of available women, invents an imaginary son and starts attending single parent meeting. But Will's hope of a continued bachelorhood is interrupted when he meets Marcus, one of his liaisons, an odd 12-year-old boy with problems both at home and at school, and also in many ways his complete opposite. Gradually, Will and Marcus become friends, and as Will teaches Marcus how to be a normal but cool kid, Marcus helps Will to finally grow up.

(Will Narrating)In my opinion, all men are islands, And what's more,now's the time to be one. This is an island age. A hundred years ago, for instance, you had to depend on other people. No one had TV, or CDs or DVDs or videos or home espresso makers. As a matter of fact, they didn't have anything cool, whereas now, you see, you can make yourself a little island paradise. With the right supplies and more importantly, the right attitude, you can be sun-drenched, tropical, a magnet for young Swedish tourists.(Answering Machine Beeping)
(威爾獨(dú)白)我認(rèn)為，人人都是孤島，而且，現(xiàn)在是個(gè)適合做孤島的年代。這是個(gè)孤島年代。一百年前，你必須依賴比別人，因?yàn)闆]有電視、CD、DVD、錄像機(jī)，沒有家用煮咖啡機(jī)。事實(shí)上，沒有任何可以享受的東西。而現(xiàn)在，只要你有適當(dāng)?shù)脑O(shè)備、正確的心態(tài)，你完全可以變孤島天堂，一個(gè)陽光燦爛的熱帶小島，輕而易舉地吸引的瑞典游客。(聽電話錄音)
Kristina: Hi, it's Kristina. I haven't heard from you. I had a great time last weekend, so give me a call, okay?

Scene 2（場(chǎng)景2）
(Marcus Narrating)There were people out there who had a good time in life. I was beginning to realize I wasn' t one of them. I just didn't fit. I didn't fit my old school. I definitely didn't fit at my new one. I heard that some kids got taught by their parents at home, but Mum couldn't do that unless I paid her to teach me. Because it was just her and me. And she went to work. She made 400 pounds a week. Where was I gonna get that kind of money from? Maybe, if I was like that movie kid , Haley Joel Osment, I could pay her that much, but if that meant being good at drama, forget it. I was crap. at drama, 'cause I hated standing up in front of people. So, basically, I had to go to school.
(馬可斯獨(dú)白)有些人日子過得很開心，我卻覺得自己沒這個(gè)福氣，我總是格格不入，在原來的學(xué)校這樣，在新學(xué)校更是這樣。聽說有些父母會(huì)在家里教孩子，而我媽媽不會(huì)，除非我付她，學(xué)費(fèi)。家里只有我們母子倆，她得上班，每星期賺 400英磅。我哪付得起這么一大筆錢?如果我是天才童星，比如像哈里·喬·奧斯蒙特，那就好了!但如果那樣就得會(huì)演戲，可是，我一點(diǎn)都不懂演戲，我怕站在很多人面前。所以，我只好上學(xué)。
Scene 3（場(chǎng)景3）
Christine's husband: What about you, Will? Any desire for a family of your own yet?
克里斯蒂娜的丈夫:威爾，有沒有成家的打算啊?
Will: I'd rather eat one of Barney's dirty nappies. Not really, I'm all right.
威爾: 我寧愿吃班尼的尿布，也不想結(jié)婚生子。還沒有，我現(xiàn)在這樣挺好。
Christine: Oh, please, Will! What does that mean?
克里斯蒂娜:噢，威爾，你真是……這什么話啊?
Will: Oh, please, what?
威爾: 什么?
Christine: Well, look at yourself. You're 38，and you've never had a job or a relationship that lasted longer than two months. I wouldn't exactly say you were okay. I would say you' re a disaster. I mean, what is the point of your life?
克里斯蒂娜:你看看你自己，都已經(jīng)三十八了，還整天游手好閑。連談戀愛，也沒有超過兩個(gè)月的。怎么能算可以，簡直就是很悲慘。這樣生活，有什么意義?
Will: Bloody hell. Well, no, you're probably right. There's probably no point of my life. But thank you for bringing it up.
威爾: 或許你說得對(duì)，是沒什么意義。謝謝你好心提醒我。
Christine's husband:Well, the reason we wanted you to come here today was, well, we wanted to ask you.
克里斯蒂娜的丈夫:我們叫你來，是想問你……
Christine: How would you like to be Imogen's godfather?

Will: Seriously?
威爾: 說真的?
Christine: Seriously.
克里斯蒂娜:說真的。
Will: Listen , I' m really , really touched, but you must be joking. I couldn't possibly think of a worse godfather for Imogen. You know what I'm like. I'll drop her on her head at her christening. I'll forget all her birthdays until her 18th , when I'll take her out and get her drunk and possibly let's face it, you know, try and shag her. Seriously. It's a very, very bad choice.
威爾: 謝謝你們看得起我，別開玩笑了。我哪做得了教父?你們應(yīng)該很了解我的，比如說在洗禮上，我會(huì)把她摔個(gè)倒栽蔥;而且我不會(huì)記得她的生日，只會(huì)記得她十八歲的生日，到時(shí)我會(huì)把她灌醉，然后設(shè)法弄到手。說實(shí)話，這不是個(gè)好主意。
Christine: Well, no, I just thought you had hidden depths , Will.
