Can you make the tea, Sam?
彭妮：你會(huì)沏茶嗎，薩姆?
Yes, of course I can, Penny.
薩姆：會(huì)的，我當(dāng)然會(huì)，彭妮。
Is there any water in this kettle?
薩姆：這水壺里有水嗎?
Yes, there is.
彭妮：有水。
Where’s the tea?
薩姆：茶葉在哪兒?
It’s over there, behind the teapot.
彭妮：就在那兒，茶壺后面。
Can you see it?
彭妮：你看見了嗎?
I can see the teapot, but I can’t see the tea.
薩姆：茶壺我看見了，但茶葉沒看到。
There it is!It’s in front of you.
彭妮：那不是么! 就在你眼前。
Ah yes, I can see it now.
薩姆：噢，是啊，我現(xiàn)在看到了。
Where are the cups?
薩姆：茶杯在哪兒呢?
There are some in the cupboard.
彭妮：碗櫥里有幾只。
Can you find them?
彭妮：你找得到嗎?
Yes. Here they are.
薩姆：找得到。就在這兒呢。
Hurry up, Sam.The kettle’s boiling.

1. Can you make the tea, Sam? 你會(huì)沏茶嗎，薩姆?
make the tea,沏茶。句中can是英語(yǔ)中最常見的幾個(gè)情態(tài)助動(dòng)詞之一，請(qǐng)參見本課語(yǔ)法部分。
2.behind，在……的后面。
與in front of(在……前面)互為反義詞。
3.The kettle's boiling!水開了!
這里的kettle =water in the kettle。用容器來指代容器內(nèi)的.東西是一種修辭格，叫借代(metonymy)。
語(yǔ)法 Grammar in use
can(1)
can是英語(yǔ)中最常用的幾個(gè)情態(tài)助動(dòng)詞之一，它本身不表示動(dòng)作，只表示體力或腦力方面的能力或客觀可能等。它必須與其他動(dòng)詞連用，本身沒有性和數(shù)的變化。如：
I can see some coffee on the table.
我能看到桌子上的一些咖啡。
Can Sam read this book?
薩姆看得懂這本書嗎?
can的否定形式為can not, cannot或can't(省略式)：
I can't see any coffee.
我看不見什么咖啡。
He can't find the cups.
他找不到杯子。
詞匯學(xué)習(xí) Word study
1.find v.
(1)找到;尋得：
It is most important to find a suitable person for the job.
找到一位適合做這項(xiàng)工作的人是至關(guān)重要的。
Where are the cups? I can't find them.
杯子放在哪兒?我找不到它們。
(2)找出;查明:
Shall we ever find an answer to the tough problem ?
我們能找出解決這一難題的辦法嗎?
It is found that 70%of college students have part-time jobs.
已查明，有70%的大學(xué)生做兼職工作。
2 .boil v .
(1)開，滾;沸騰:
When water boils it changes into steam
水沸騰時(shí)會(huì)變成蒸氣。
(2)(海等)翻騰;洶涌:
The stormy sea is boiling.
暴風(fēng)雨中的大海洶涌起伏。
(3)(人、感情等)激動(dòng);發(fā)怒:
Seeing the national flag made me boil
看著國(guó)旗，我心潮澎湃。
