The Qingming Festival is spent honoring the dead, which is one of many ways good Confucians demonstrate filial piety. On this day, people visit their family graves to remove any underbrush that has grown. They would uproot weeds near the gravesites, wipe the tombstones and decorate the tombstones with fresh flowers. 二十四節(jié)氣是中國(guó)古代天文學(xué)家和民眾在生活和生產(chǎn)實(shí)踐中總結(jié)出來(lái)的氣候規(guī)律，比較適宜地反映了一年四季氣溫、物候、降雨等方面的變化，對(duì)人們依時(shí)安排農(nóng)耕、蠶桑等活動(dòng)有不可或缺的指導(dǎo)意義。到了清明，氣溫變暖，降雨增多，正是春耕春種的大好時(shí)節(jié)。所以清明對(duì)于古代農(nóng)業(yè)生產(chǎn)而言是一個(gè)重要的節(jié)氣。農(nóng)諺說(shuō) “清明前后，點(diǎn)瓜種豆”、“植樹(shù)造林，莫過(guò)清明”，正是說(shuō)的這個(gè)道理。東漢崔寔《四民月令》記載：“清明節(jié)，命蠶妾，治蠶室······”說(shuō)的是這時(shí)開(kāi)始準(zhǔn)備養(yǎng)蠶。其中的“清明節(jié)”還只是一個(gè)節(jié)氣，不是節(jié)日。
